West Vancouver adopt the IPCC emission targets

On Monday July 8th, West Vancouver City Council will be debating whether to declare a Climate Emergency! Approving the declaration would send a clear signal that West Vancouver is ready and willing to tackle the climate crisis head on. But unlike all the other climate emergency declarations in our region so far, West Van's motion does not commit them to adopting the most recent Climate Emission Targets set by the IPCC, which recommend a 45% reduction in emissions by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050. From the latest scientific reports these are the targets we must meet in order to avoid global temperatures warming more than 2 degrees.

The City of North Vancouver and District of North Vancouver have already agreed to the IPCC targets, and we need West Vancouver on board if we want to see cohesive climate action on the North Shore.  Tell West Vancouver to update their emission reduction targets and adopt the latest IPCC recommended targets!
